L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center, Idaho State University

At many school districts, universities and institutional buildings in Utah and Idaho, Midgley-Huber Inc., Salt Lake City UT and Boise ID is well-known for providing unique solutions for their construction market. One of the keys to their success is providing superior equipment based on the reliability, low sound levels and long life of Dunham-Bush chillers.

One of these outstanding jobs is the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center at Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID. This facility, still under construction, has already installed one of the facility's most important acoustical features: Dunham-Bush HWSC300 Water-Cooled Chillers.

Upon completion, the impressive 110,000 square foot performing arts center will host: a 1,200 seat acoustically perfect grand concert hall, a 450 seat thrust theater designed for dramatic performances, a 250 seat experimental black box theater.

To insure the sound quality of the center the university employed acoustical engineers who choose Midgley-Huber and Dunham-Bush products to provide the quiet reliability required. Equipment presently installed are: (2) HWSC 300's (with space allowed to for the addition of another 300 ton chiller at a later date) as well as (7) 160,500 cfm Custom Air Handlers complete with under seat mushroom diffusers and linear slot diffusers.

In addition to the Dunham-Bush equipment, Midgley-Huber provided the complete mechanical package including boilers, cooling towers, pumps, power roof ventilators, VAV boxes and diffusers for the project.

When the Jordan School District renovated 3 of their schools last year, they choose Midgley-Huber and Dunham-Bush to replace worn-out rooftops units with a new chilled water/hot water system that included new boilers, chillers and custom air handlers. The Sunrise, Monte Vista and Rosemond Elementary Schools all used Dunham-Bush ACDX chillers to provide quiet operation with superior unloading and redundancy for trouble-free operation.

Midgley-Huber also used Dunham-Bush chillers on the Provost Hospital and Salt Lake City Justice Court Building. In each of these cases, Midgley-Huber and Dunham-Bush were chosen these projects because they offered the best solution.
