Ice-Cel®

Ice-Cel® is the most advanced ice thermal storage system in the industry. It offers building owners and managers a simple and effective way to reduce electricity demand as well as energy usage charges.

The Dunham-Bush integrated system operates simply. Chilled ethylene or propylene glycol from a standard reciprocating or screw compressor chiller circulates through a cylindrical tank containing a parallel-flow array of heat exchanger tubes freezing the system water within the tank. During off-peak energy demand hours, the chiller is run to freeze water in the tank and to store the cooling effect. During peak energy demand hours, the chiller is shut down and the glycol is circulated to air handlers to provide air conditioning.

The patented Dunham-Bush process incorporates a number of refinements. The tank and cover feature double-wall high strength woven fiberglass construction with two inches of urethane foam insulation. The polyethylene tube heat exchangers operate at very low pressure drop and through the parallel-flow array, freeze and melt at relatively constant temperatures. Melt is rapid and even.

Ice-Cel® modules
